SUPPORTING SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything we need for our survival and well-being depends directly or indirectly on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony that permit fulfilling the social, economic, and other requirements of present and future generations.

Sustainability is important to ensuring that we have and will continue to have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment. We are committed to cherishing our environment. Many of our hotels and resorts are completely self-sufficient, running from the power they generate through solar farms, generating so much power we sell back to the power grid. We have desalination plants, where possible, for purifying water and cleaning and recycling grey water to wash and water our gardens.

Each year, we will participate in the Commuter Challenge, a week-long event in which employees are encouraged to walk, bike, bus, and carpool to work. This event promotes awareness of how to reduce the greenhouse gases produced by transportation while encouraging our associates to be healthier! We will partner with Evergreen each year to plant trees in all communities where we operate our hotels. It’s a fun and healthy way of getting employees involved in maintaining green spaces around the city while promoting sustainability! We encourage our employees to participate in Earth Day activities and events each year.

We will maintain a page called “Green Eternally Green” on our intranet with information on corporate sustainability initiatives, as well as tips and resources on how employees can live a more sustainable lifestyle—not only at work but also in their households!
